The Refectory, Maccreanor Lavington

Publication for Maccreanor Lavington with photography by Jack Hobhouse.
The Refectory documents Ibstock School’s extension designed by architects Maccreanor Lavington. Re-imagining the traditional ‘grand hall’ as a celebration of communal life. Environmental considerations were at the heart of the design. Including the existing natural heritage of the site and mature London Plane trees. The book features a photographic essay by Jack Hobhouse, architectural documents and an essay by Tom Waddicor.
For the design, attention was placed on tactility, visual and sensorial appreciation for the quiet architecture. Material choices speak to the warmth of the interior. Hobhouse’s photographic essay takes us on a walk through the building. A blind impression on the cover reveals an early sketch at the origin of the design.
